FAQ
ITF-14 questions.
What does an ITF-14 encode?
A 14-digit GTIN: an indicator digit (the packaging level), then the product's GTIN, then a check digit. The same product at different case sizes gets different indicator digits.
Why use ITF-14 instead of printing the EAN on the box?
Interleaved 2 of 5 tolerates low-quality printing on corrugated cardboard far better than EAN/UPC symbols. That's why carton codes use it.
Does it need the thick black border?
The bearer bars help press printing and scanning on cartons. Many label-printed ITF-14s omit them; if your trading partner's spec requires bearer bars, add them in your label design around the symbol.
Can I encode other lengths?
The ITF symbology accepts any even number of digits, and so does this generator — but for retail supply chains, 14 digits is the standard.
Is this free for commercial use?
Yes — download the SVG or PNG and print it on anything.

Generating codes is the easy half. Inventory Scan turns them into live inventory — scan any of these from a phone to look up, count, and update items. Free for 100 items.
